Prostatitis in men

Prostatitis is an inflammation of the prostate (prostate), which is an organ that produces a liquid secretion that is part of semen.The pathology sometimes causes severe pain and potency problems.It is reasonable to start the treatment of prostatitis immediately after the diagnosis.

Symptoms

Prostatitis usually affects men between the ages of 25 and 50.Pathology is very common.It affects between a third and a half of all men on the planet.The problem has several symptoms:

Symptoms of prostatitis
  • the man experiences discomfort and pain during urination;
  • urine flows slowly in a thin stream, it must be squeezed out;
  • The desire to relieve oneself often arises at night and at other times of the day.I can't help but feel that not all the urine has left the bladder;
  • the urine is cloudy, mixed with blood;
  • pain in the lower abdomen, back, groin and perineum (between the scrotum and the anus);
  • accompanied by pain and discomfort in the testicles and penis;
  • ejaculation is painful;

Prostatitis often has symptoms similar to a cold (low temperature, fever).They are characteristic of bacterial type pathology (more on this below).

Reasons

Prostatitis occurs more often in men who have previously suffered from this disease.The problem is caused by:

  • infection in the bladder and urethra;
  • HIV and other diseases that men contract during sex;
  • injury in the pool area - falling from a bicycle or horse;

A catheter in the urethra to drain urine from the bladder causes prostatitis in men.

The pathology sometimes appears after a prostate biopsy, when a sample of the tissue is taken for analysis.Symptoms of prostatitis are rarely observed in men after such a procedure.

Complications

Due to prostatitis:

    Chronic non-bacterial prostatitis
  • inflammation of the epididymis (epididymitis);
  • the number of sperm decreases significantly and infertility occurs;
  • an abscess (a cavity filled with pus) appears.

Many studies by scientists do not find a direct link between prostatitis and prostate cancer.

Types of prostatitis

There are 5 main types of prostatitis: chronic and acute non-bacterial, chronic and acute bacterial, asymptomatic.

  • Chronic non-bacterial(also known as chronic pelvic pain syndrome).The most common (more than 90% of all patients suffer from it).The signs of prostatitis are unstable, they come and go.There are no pathogens in the body.The diagnosis is made when a man suffers from pain in the pelvic area, discomfort during urination and other symptoms mentioned above for at least 3 months.The exact cause of the disease is unknown, but it is probably caused by:
    • neurological problems (neuropathy);
    • irritation of the prostate, which causes poor urine flow from the bladder;
    • pelvic floor muscle problems (dyssynergia);
    • atypical viruses and bacteria still unknown to science.
  • Acute, not bacterial.It is accompanied by chronic pain in the pelvic area and constant urination problems.
  • Acutely contagious.The most severe type of the disease.It rarely happens.Born:
    • E. coli, staphylococci and other bacteria;
    • sexually transmitted diseases (chlamydia, gonorrhea);
    • Candida fungus.
    Diagnosis of the prostate

    Symptoms increase rapidly.The discomfort in the pelvic area is accompanied by pain in the genitals, fever, nausea and burning pain during urination.Acute bacterial prostatitis can cause serious, life-threatening complications such as abscesses, inability to urinate, and low blood pressure.

  • Chronically infectious.Pathology may not make itself felt for years.Symptoms are similar to the acute bacterial type, but not as severe.
  • Asymptomatic.Discovered by accident.There are no symptoms.An ultrasound shows signs of inflammation, and a blood test shows elevated levels of prostate-specific antigen.

Diagnosis

The diagnosis is established by the following methods:

  • digital rectal examination;
  • urine analysis.It is necessary to determine whether there is an infection in the prostate gland;
  • blood test.The level of prostate-specific antigen is checked.The test reveals signs of inflammation;
  • Ultrasound of the urogenital system.It is prescribed when the above tests are not sufficient to establish an accurate diagnosis.Ultrasound of the prostate is preferably performed through the anus (transrectal method).

In addition, the doctor sometimes analyzes the discharge from the prostate.To obtain it, massage the gland.

Tests for various sexually transmitted infections that cause prostatitis may be prescribed.

A professional diagnosis enables the proper treatment of prostatitis in men.

Treatment

If the prostatitis is bacterial, the doctor prescribes:

  • Antibiotics.Their type depends on the bacteria identified.You must take the medicine for one and a half months.If symptoms are very severe, antibiotics should be administered intravenously immediately.
  • Alpha blockers.Medicines relax the muscles in the bladder where the prostate joins it.Relieves pain during urination.
  • Healthy and unhealthy prostate
  • Pain relievers- non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

You cannot prescribe medicines yourself.Only a doctor can determine how to treat prostatitis.

Prevention

To prevent prostatitis:

  • take a warm sitz bath;
  • apply a heating pad to the lower abdomen or back;
  • stop consuming alcohol, caffeine, foods that increase acidity (spicy, salty);
  • We drink a lot of fluids (unsweetened).This is how we wash the urinary system;bacteria will not have time to multiply;
  • Try not to ride a bike for a long time, don't sit for a long time;
  • do not forget about the hygiene of the penis and perineum;
  • we use contraception;
  • We play sports.Simple cardio exercises will be enough - start jogging, swimming in the pool and doing light warm-ups.

Prevention of prostatitis should become part of the lifestyle.Simple ways to protect the body.
